Supporting our residents to make a stand against domestic abuse

Our Townsend House team recently held a "healthy relationships" resident workshop to support our commitment, as an association, to making a stand against domestic abuse.
The workshop began with various videos demonstrating different scenarios where domestic abuse was present. This opened up a group discussion about relationships in general, what behaviour is acceptable in relationships and how individuals should expect to be treated. Situations such as first dates, i.e. who should pay and what are the expectations of this, when does being protective become controlling and whether jealousy is healthy in a relationship were discussed.
Project Worker, Leighanne was really pleased with the enthusiasm our residents showed for the workshop –
"The workshop was really successful. All our residents were really engaged in the content and activities with many of them opening up about their own experiences. We finished the session with everyone creating individual ‘make a stand’ pledges against domestic abuse.”
We are planning similar workshops at other Sapphire services over the coming months. Please do keep an eye on our news and events page, newsletters and digital display screens for upcoming events.
In the meantime if you would like to talk to someone about domestic abuse you can speak to a member of staff directly. Alternatively you can contact Women’s Aid on 0808 2000 247 or the National Centre for Domestic Violence (NCDV) on 0800 970 2070.
